What he does at ALPO

Yevgen designed the route itineraries, acclimatization schedules and safety protocols. Before a climb, the first conversation is with him: what you want from the climb, your timing and how you are preparing. On the mountain, most programs are led by our co-founder and lead guide, Liberaty Victor Mato.

Why a climber who has stood on Everest and K2 keeps coming back to Kilimanjaro

More than 25 Kilimanjaro expeditions in, and the Machame Route is still his favorite – the one he considers the most varied on the mountain, and the route ALPO runs as its signature climb. The fresh, hot borscht served at our camps is made from a recipe he personally taught our chef.

“I’ve stood on the summits of Everest and K2. Lemosho, Machame, the other Kilimanjaro routes – none of them ask anything close to that level of preparation. But this mountain demands real respect for altitude. With the right pace and our medical checks, any physically active person can reach the summit.”
