Our policies

The rules we run every expedition by – who we take on the mountain, how we keep you safe at altitude, how we treat our crew, and what happens if your plans change.

6 POLICIES · SET BY OUR FOUNDING GUIDES

No fine print – just how we work.

Most of these policies exist for one reason: safety. Kilimanjaro is a serious high-altitude environment, and clear rules – about age, health, oxygen, and insurance – are what keep our 95%+ success rate honest.

The rest is about fairness: to you when plans change, and to the porters and guides who make every climb possible. Each policy below is written in plain language, with no surprises hidden in the details.

Age policy

The minimum age for the summit, how we handle climbs with teenagers, and what we ask of climbers over 60 — including when a doctor’s clearance is required.

Oxygen policy

Emergency oxygen travels with every group — but it is a rescue tool, not a climbing aid. When we use it, how daily SpO2 and pulse checks work, and what happens if a climber needs to descend.

Porter welfare

We are a KPAP member operator. Fair wages paid directly, load limits that are actually enforced, proper meals and shelter on the mountain — and how tipping works.

Medical requirements

The health questionnaire every climber completes, conditions that need a conversation with us (and your doctor) first, and the medication to discuss before you travel.

Cancellation & refunds

Dates, deposits, and what’s included in the price — plus the paperwork: visa, insurance, vaccinations. What happens between “Book” and your departure day.

Insurance requirements

Every climber needs travel insurance that covers trekking to 6,000 m, including helicopter evacuation. What the policy must include, and the providers our climbers use most.
