Arriving in Tanzania:
Your First Day with ALPO
At Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), the ALPO team meets you. The transfer in our own vehicle is included in the package; no need to hunt for a taxi.
From the airport to the hotel
The drive to Moshi takes about 45 minutes, and your 3★ hotel is ready when you get there. The night before the climb is included in the package, as is the night after the descent (at the 4★ Kibo Palace Hotel in Arusha). The evening is yours: dinner, a shower, sleep.
The briefing and gear check
The full briefing happens at the hotel: the route day by day, safety rules at altitude, and meeting your guide team. This is also where we check your insurance policy – high-altitude trekking coverage is required for every climber. Then comes the gear check against the list: the guides go through your things personally. If anything’s missing, you can rent it on the spot: sleeping bags, down jackets, trekking poles, headlamps.
Departure morning
The next morning you head out to the national park gate. There, duffels are weighed against the KPAP standard: 15 kg max. The group registers, and your route to the summit begins. From then on, every morning starts with a hot cup of tea or coffee brought right to your tent.
